Homosexuality in Kenia

Bram Vergeer, a Dutch filmmaker, has made a documentary on problems homosexuals are facing in Kenia. The documentary '7 years' is being realised in cooperation with Youth Incentives, NCDO Netherlands and different NGO’s.

The documentary '7  years' is about problems homosexuals are facing in a country driven by tribal traditions, conservative ex-colonial legislations and a strong perception of both Christianity and Islam. The title of the documentary refers to the average penalty in Kenia on ‘attempted homosexual behaviour’: 7 years in prison.

The film will be shown at different film festivals all over the world and on Dutch television (November 17th 2007 at 8 p.m. at the Amsterdam channel MVS / Salto A1).

Bram has lived in Kenia for several months. He has written a weekly diary about his experiences while realizing his film. Please always feel free to contact, inform, correct or advise Bram through bvergeer@gmail.com
