Training on the RAP in Uganda, 11 -15 December 2006
Uganda Youth Reproductive Health Initiative (UYRHI) is a Non-Governmental Organisation established in 2004. Its main goal is to provide a constellation of services and information designed specifically to meet the reproductive and sexual health needs and concerns of young people. The organisation is based in Kampala and has branches in different districts of Uganda.
Youth Incentives organised a 4-day training on the RAP-rule in the town of Masaka. Aim of this training for the participants was to have a better understanding of sexuality and the different aspects; to learn how to speak openly about issues concerning sexuality and to have a basic understanding of the RAP-rule.
The group of 25 participants was very diverse, i.e. young girls and boys from the Masaka community, some of the volunteers of the Uganda Youth Reproductive Health Initiative from Kampala and other districts, a few local teachers and a reporter.
The training was followed by a 1-day meeting with the youth groups of the Masaka region. On the last day of the short term consultancy a meeting with the board of the organisation was arranged to discuss the way forwards. Furthermore, a meeting with a group of gay, lesbian, transgender and bisexual youth in Kampala was organised during which the needs for support were assessed.
