Within the framework of the EUSRH programme for Turkey (2003 – 2007) a training course on reproductive health is being developed for primary healthcare professionals. This training consists of five modules: safe motherhood, emergency obstetric care, family planning, sexually transmitted infections, HIV/AIDS and youth and reproductive health. Youth Incentives has been asked to develop the part on youth and reproductive health. Furthermore, a training course is being developed for staff at youth counselling centres that the Turkish Government is planning to establish. Youth Incentives has been asked to provide technical assistance and support. Anke van Dam, head of Youth Incentives has been to Turkey to develop both training courses in collaboration with a Turkish expert. Youth Incentives will encourage the involvement of young people in all aspects of the project. It is proposed that the Turkish Ministry of Health visits youth counselling centres in other countries, such as Sweden, Denmark or the Netherlands, to apply their ideas on youth counselling centres to the situation in Turkey.
Study tour Turkish teachers, September 23-27, 2005
With the financial support of the EU Leornardo Da Vinci Mobility, representatives from Pursaklar health college from Ankara, Turkey came to the Netherlands and visited Youth Incentives. The main purpose of the study tour was to learn from the Dutch experiences concerning 'sexuality education and the prevention / management of teenage pregnancy'.
Within their college they face problems concerning early marriages and teenage pregnancy.
Youth Incentives organised a training course on the subject, with emphasis on the Dutch sexuality education system and methodologies to be used in and out of school programmes. The participants also took part in site visits to a sexual-health centre, a high school and a care centre for teenage mothers to discuss the challenges and obstacles they face with the professionals working in these institutes. Action plans to improve the sexuality education in their college were drawn from the lessons learned.
