Advocating for sexual and reproductive health and rights, October 3-5, 2005

Youth Incentives attended the 7th IPPF (International Planned Parenthood Federation) Youth Working Group meeting which was held from October 3 - 5, 2005 in London. The topic was 'advocating for sexual and reproductive health and rights'. About 15 young people and 5 IPPF staff members from all regions attended and spoke about the importance of advocacy, and learned how to speak about 'more controversial' topics. Special attention was given to what advocacy exactly is (identifying and calling for change), why it is important, and how it can be done.
The expected outcome of this meeting was to create a user friendly booklet which discusses the process and content of adolescent sexuality related advocacy. The booklet is now being processed and will be made available to Member Associations and young people interested in advocacy activities. It will focus on how and what to say in advocacy campaigns. Secondly, a report of the meeting written as a tool for facilitating similar meetings in the future is also expected.
