Study tour China Family Planning Association in the Netherlands, 5 - 9 February, 2007
The study tour was initiated by the China Family Planning Association (CFPA) and organised by Youth Incentives. Aim of the tour was to get to know the Dutch partner associations, their work in the Netherlands and the Dutch approach on both reproductive and sexual health care and education. During the 4-day tour the Chinese delegation visited several organisations.
Rutgers Nisso Groep/Youth Incentives started the study tour with a short history on the reproductive and sexual health care in The Netherlands. The Dutch Approach towards young people and sexuality was introduced, illustrated by an interactive presentation on sexuality education in Dutch schools.
The next days the delegation was presented the Dutch Approach in practice as they visited places like the Mildred Huis (a centre for reproductive and sexual health care including abortions) and the Wallenwinkel (the prostitution information centre).
The delegation was also invited by the Dominee Piersoncollege (a secondary school) inĀ 's Hertogenbosch, in the South of the Netherlands. At this school they attended the annual project on relationships and sexuality for students aged 14-16. The Chinese visitors and their interpreter joined subgroups of students in five workshops:
- prevention of STI/HIV
- comprehensive quiz on sexuality
- demonstration of anti-conceptives,
- a communication game on sex talks
- the pros and cons of internet dating and –flirting.
Exploring collaboration with the China Family Planning Association, October 2005
Following several visits of the China Family Planning Association (CFPA) and the China National Population and Family Planning Commission (NPFPC) to the Netherlands in 2004 and 2005 (visits jointly organized by the Youth Incentives programme of the Rutgers Nisso Group and the World Population Foundation) both Dutch organisations were invited to visit China in October 2005. The objective of the mission was to further discuss a possible meaningful collaboration between the CFPA/NPFPC and the two Dutch organisations. Meaningful should be interpreted as a collaboration in which the two Dutch organisations through their specific expertise and experience supplement (added value) current programmes and projects of the CFPA. Initial discussions focussed on sexuality education projects for particularly young people in China.
The mission first participated in the Youth Sexual Health Education Conference - Global Perspectives in Hangzhou and subsequently travelled to Beijing for meetings with NPFPC, CFPA and relevant international agencies and organisations. Although the economic situation is China is rapidly changing there is still a lack of capacity to manage sustainable sexual and reproductive health programmes from a rights based approach. Also the involvement and active participation of young people is still a field what slowly is being explored. Youth Incentives together with World Population Foundation and the China Family Planning Association will develop a pilot programme on these issues.
Study tour Chinese Population and Family Planning Commission, September 18-24, 2005
Twentytwo representatives from the Chinese Population and Family Planning Commission came to the Netherlands and visited Youth Incentives/Rutgers Nisso Groep. They were representatives from different Chinese regions and provinces. The main purpose of their visit was to learn from the Dutch experience concerning sexual and reproductive health programmes for young people. The World Population Foundation arranged for them several site visits to different Dutch organisations. The participants visited the Rutgers Nisso Groep to learn about the specific programmes and methodologies used to reach specific groups of young people, like disabled or mentally handicapped young people and the specific programme for juvenile sex offenders.
