Training in Burundi, 22- 27 October 2007
Youth Incentives visited Burundi for a training to the staff of CBLP (Centre Burundais de Lutte Contre la Prostitution et les violences sexuelles faites aux Femmes).
Ten volunteers participated in the training which was dealing about sexual and reproductive health and rights, stigma and discrimination and talking about sexuality. An other important item during the visit was to explore the possibility for a partnership between the two organisations Youth Incentives and CBLP. The situation in Burundi with regard to the rights of young people and sexual and reproductive rights is far from ideal but CBLP, a young enthusiastic NGO, is working hard for recognizing these rights on different levels. For some participants the training was an eye-opener and will help them in their future work. Youth Incentives and CBLP together visited other organisations such as the Family Planning Association ABUBEF , the residential representative of UNFPA and the Dutch consulate in Bujumbura. The following actions were decided upon together with CBLP:
-
CBLP will formulate a project. Youth Incentives will give its input and hence it will be sent to UNFPA for including in the special fund for the consolidation peace.
-
CBLP will contact the responsible person for social affairs at the antenna of the Dutch Embassy in Bujumbura, to discuss possible support from the Dutch Embassy to help young girls and women victim of sexual violence's and harassment. It should contribute to projects for CBLP to execute.
-
Youth Incentives will contact organisations in the Netherlands that might be interested to help CBLP financially in their work.
