Youth Adult Partnership: Twinning with Bulgaria, 18-20 september 2006

One of the projects in the framework of the SAFE-project (Sexual Awareness for Europe-project) of IPPF-EN concerns the consolidation of youth adult partnerships within member associations of IPPF. A first activity was the training of Youth Adult Partnership in March 2006 in Dublin . During that training the Bulgarian Family Planning Association and Rutgers Nisso Groep/Youth Incentives created a twinning to learn from each others experiences.
A trip to Bulgaria was organised in September 2006: Anke van Dam (Rutgers Nisso Groep) and Kim Broekhuijsen (International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations) visited Bulgaria, to see how youth and adults work together within the Bulgarian Family Planning Association.

They were taken all over the country to see several projects:
-A peer education project amongst young girls with criminal records. We met  with the director of one of the boarding schools where these girls live.
-A project on repackaging safe sex messages with high school students. We had an informal meeting in a café.
-A radioshow on safe sex with girls with criminal records and high school students working together. We attended focus group discussions on the (sexual) trafficking of girls.
Furthermore we visited a rural and an urban family planning clinic, and the first meeting with some Roma women in a project about a mobile clinic (both of which didn’t really have anything to do with Youth Adult Partnership, but it was interesting anyway).
The Bulgarian Family Planning Association visited the Rutgers Nisso Groep on 28 and 29 September 2006.

Studytour early 2005

Early in 2005, Youth Incentives assisted in the organisation of a study tour designed to facilitate the realisation of a 4-year project to improve the sexual and reproductive health of young people in Bulgaria. The overall goal was to obtain a general overview of Dutch policies in the area of sexual and reproductive health (SRH) education. The Bulgarian delegates, with representation from the Ministry of Education and Science, gained insight into the SRH education programmes in the Netherlands (content, in-out of school programmes, results, different ages). An understanding was obtained of how the SRH education is incorporated into the general education system. Views were exchanged and discussions held with professionals working in the field to gain a better understanding of monitoring the quality of SRH programmes and the qualification of teachers.
