The Information Centre of Rutgers Nisso Groep has a unique position in providing information for such diverse needs. As an expert centre, Rutgers Nisso Groep makes this information available for professions and policy makers, as well as the media, university and high school students. Grey literature such as annual reports, research reports and brochures, which can be difficult to find, is also available in the Information Centre. The primary task of the Information Centre is to support the researchers and consultants of Rutgers Nisso Groep with acquisition, execution and evaluation of projects. Insight into national and international developments In order to play an active role in the dissemination of information regarding national and international developments, the Information Centre has built a unique collection of scientific information regarding a variety of sexuality issues. Rutgers Nisso Groep has information and sources that are not available elsewhere at its disposal. The collection holds approximately 80,000 titles and is able to provide a complete view of national, as well as international [scientific] developments regarding sexuality. The Information Centre’s electronic information sources can be accessed by the public via the Internet. Due to the expertise regarding sexuality and the knowledge regarding the work of Rutgers Nisso Groep, the information specialists have an effective referral function. They are able to successfully respond to questions for both internal projects and external clients. Work environment and methods The Information Centre has an important support function for the entire Rutgers Nisso Groep. The centre provides necessary background information for the first phase of research projects and the development of innovative interventions. When requested, the centre prepares literature reports for the organisation, as well as policy reports for the Research department. The information specialists monitor scientific publications daily and select the most relevant information for the centre. The Information Centre follows developments and analyses new information. This results in fact sheets regarding various themes such as contraception and sexual harassment. Such fact sheets provide facts and statistics, as well as in-depth information regarding each theme. |
